Dr. Yelena Akelina was Co-Chair and a speaker at 5th IMSS education session at 13th EFSM meeting.
Dr. Ankelina presented a talk about Microsurgery training courses in USA, and participated in the consensus session for the standards of the microsurgery training courses in the world.

Dr. Yelena Akelina was a professor/instructor for the First International Standardized Basic and Advanced Microsurgery Course that was taught in th eBioTechnologie Center at the Antonio Cardarelli Hospital, Naples, Italy. She also was a President for the III IMSS meeting and gave two talks: "IMSS: Ideas and Goals" and "Future Developments in Microsurgery training, quality assessments and super microsurgery".

IMSS - Second Annual Meeting at CUMC, May 2013
Dr. Yelena Akelina, a host, an organizer and Program Chair for the IMSS meeting that took place at the Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery, CUMC.
There were more than 50 guests from 12 countries that represented a majority of the prominent microsurgical training centers around the world. This networking meeting was very intense (46 podium talks) and presented many interesting microsurgical cases. The main goals for the congress were innovations in skills assessments for microsurgery, new and collaborative teaching techniques and creating a network for microsurgery educators around the world. Dr. Akelina has become a President of IMSS.

Dr. Yelena Akelina was an invited guest at the Inaugural Congress of Asian Pacific Federation for Societies for Reconstructive Microsurgery. She gave two talks: "Student-tailored Training Course-The Columbia University Experience" and "Importance of Microsurgical Training & Training in Robotic Microsurgery for the surgical trainee". She also was invited to give a CME lecture to the house-staff of KK Hospital in Singapore and she was talking about combining the basic microsurgical training with robotic training for the residents and staff.

3D True Vision System
We have completed the year-long trail for the 3D system from True Vision Systems. The feedback from the faculty and students was useful for the TVS to improve the system's quality and make it more adaptable for hand microsurgery. At this time we are no longer utilizing the TVS in our training.

Dr. Yelena Akelina was invited to participate as a Visiting Professor and a Director at the 17th International Practical Seminar in Microsurgery of Vessels and Nerves, Timisoara, Romania, Oct. 2005.
She presented a few talks for the students of the seminar and for the faculty of the Victor Babes University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
She was proud to share her expertise as a trainer with her colleagues from microsurgery center and participated in training sessions.

Drs. Melvin Rosenwasser and Yelena Akelina were invited as Guests of Honor at the first meeting of the Kagawa Society of Upper Extremity Surgery in Takamatsu City, Japan in December 2003.
They spoke on microsurgery techniques and clinical applications of microsurgery and provided a workshop to the members of the Society.
